When you are starting out learning to sew as I did at the beginning of 2013 it helps if you know a few little things you can make with little (if any) sewing experience. So here are some suggestions that I think are nice and easy to make and will give you some experience in basic sewing skills and a sense of achievement at the end.
I also think it’s important to make something that you feel you will use. There is far more personal gratification in making something that you actually utilise rather than something that you just leave pushed to the back of the top draw and it never sees the light of day again.
Here are a few suggestions that I think you should try. Some of the below suggestions have links that will take you through to the step-by-step instructions. I am hoping over the coming weeks to have all seven suggestions with instructions linked to them so keep a look out.
1. Pin cushion
2. Basic pillow/cushion cover
4. Simple skirt
5. Suffolk Puff hair tie (also known as a Yo-Yo hair tie)
7. Paper garland
If you give any of these a go please leave a comment to let you know how you went (and if there is anything that’s not entirely clear).
